Our review of the Fantasmic Dining Package.
We love the Fantasmic show!. Let me also say we were on the Deluxe Dining Package. Had we not been on a plan I don’t believe we would have done the VIP viewing package. We didn’t enjoy the food at Hollywood and Vine and it wouldn’t be worth $60 per adult and $36 per child. We aren’t big fans of buffets. If we go to a buffet it is usually a character breakfast.
IF YOU ARE ON A DINING PLAN, you will be using a mandatory 1 credit per person over the age of 3.
Our reservation was for midday during lunch. We squeezed in between Toy Story Land and Jedi Academy Training. It was easy enough. Short wait, seated, ate the buffet, met the characters in their beach attire (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy). The food is supposed to be American….I guess….either way, we aren’t a fan.
We ate fairly quickly in order to make it to Jedi training (which we signed up for first thing that morning). It was all in order to get VIP viewing at Fantasmic.
We checked out with our credits and then were given our Fantasmic VIP viewing package vouchers. I was secretly hoping for a cool lanyard of some kind. But no, it was paper tickets, the size of business cards…of which were ripped in half by the attendee at the VIP viewing station.
Night comes around and on the night we were there the show was at 8:30. We arrived at about 8:20. We thought, “we have VIP passes, there will be a space set aside for us”. I believe Disney has figured out how to sell half the seats in the theater to Dining Package suckers…. The VIP viewing area was swamped with people. This is our view from the back row with 15 minutes until showtime.
Bottom line: you gotta eat, if you have the dining package and you love the show (like we do) then it is a great fit if you pair it with the right restaurant. We love Mama Melrose’s and Hollywood Brown Derby. If we did it again we would only do it if we were on the dining plan and could get Mama Melrose’s.
I have a dining package, what do I need to know?
Awesome! You need to know that this dining package requires 1-2 table service credit per member of your party depending on the restaurant you choose. 1 per person for Mama Melrose’s and Hollywood and Vine and 2 per person for Hollywood Brown Derby. There are no exceptions. So for every member of the party that is 3 years old or older you will need a dining credit. You can book the package online in your My Disney Experience account.
What if I don’t have a dining package?
No worries! You can still book the package for the cost per adult and child (ages 9 and under) — again depending on restaurant choice. Each dining package comes with an entree, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage, and of course your VIP viewing voucher. Buffet includes…the buffet…but you get it.
When do I get my voucher?
You don’t get your voucher until the end of the meal when you pay (either with dining credits or with cash/credit).
Can I see the show first and then go to eat?
No, no you can’t. You eat before the show to ensure that you don’t skip out on the meal after viewing the show.
What else do I need to know?
